The texts translated by Barbero do not retain the first form in verse (style much appreciated in the Middle Ages) but are reworked in prose, which makes them more pleasant to read for the modern reader without, however, depriving them of their freshness and immediacy.
They offer the image of a society that is less gloomy, closed and bigoted than we are led to think. The environment described is the popular and bourgeois one, but ecclesiastics and knights also appear there, and the female figure is already linked to some clichés: such as that of the modesty of not being able to talk about some topics or use an inappropriate language. Except then contravene it by creating the erotic climax, through tasty comedies of misunderstandings.
